On Saturday, December 3, the ministry I served with, Calvary Tohoku Relief, to reach the northeastern Japan earthquake and tsunami survivors for Christ held a seminar in central Tokyo. It was a way to present to other Japanese Christians in the city what Calvary Tohoku Relief had been blessed with this year, and it was also a way to exhort the brethren to seek the Lord's calling on them for future ministry in that region.

I was very blessed to be able to attend and also offer some words to encourage and exhort those assembled. I was only non-Japanese person in attendance. I wished to speak in Japanese only, without interpreter. I wrote out my comments and with some wonderful assistance I spoke a shortened version of what I have pasted below. Please read and pray with us that the love and truth of Jesus Christ would be spread to the northeast region and then to all of Japan.
Making New Temples Come Alive

Hello. Please allow me to speak in bad Japanese.
こんにちは。おぼつかない日本語で話すことを許してください。
I
am grateful to be here together with you responding to Christ today.
今日、皆さんと一緒にキリストに応答して、ここにいれることを感謝しています。
Last
week together with my family I was in Kyoto for a trip, it was my second time
there.
先週、家族と一緒に京都を旅行しました。私にとって二度目の京都旅行でした。
The
idea that Shinto is a religion may be controversial, but in Kyoto I saw the
evidence of this idea very clearly.
神道は宗教だという概念は受け入れがたい考えかもしれません。しかし、京都でこの考えが正しいという証拠をはっきり見ました。
People
go to buildings and parks, statues and altars, and perform actions in order to
receive peace, truth, help with their lives.
人々は平安や真理、生活の助けを受けるために、神道の建物や公園、像や祭壇へ行きます。
However,
for this religion, buildings and rituals are the limit of what can be
offered.
しかし、この宗教からは、建物や宗教的儀式くらいしか得るものがありません。
Also
in Kyoto, I saw a portion of Bunraku puppet theater.
京都で文楽も少し見ました。
It
was an amazing thing to watch the elaborate puppets come alive.
精巧に作られた人形が動き出すのを見て、素晴らしいと思いました。
The
effect of coming to life is possible of course because of the Kuroko.
人形が生き生きと動くのは、もちろん黒子の働きのおかげです。
Probably,
it is best for a kuroko to have a strong and natural understanding of Bunraku
culture in order to work with the puppet.
恐らく、人形を上手に使うために、黒子は文楽の文化をかなり理解しているはずです。

Things
like Shinto or the culture of the world cannot help people find the true God in
Jesus Christ.
神道や世界の文化などから、真の神イエス・キリストを見いだすことはできません。
Calvary
Touhoku Relief’s main purpose is to show Christ’s love.
カルバリー東北リリーフの一番の目的はキリストの愛を見せることです。
We
go to where the people are.
私たちは人々のいるところに行きます。
We
do not try to bring people to us.
人々を自分たちのところに連れて来ようとはしません。
We
offer the gift of Jesus.
私たちはイエスを贈り物として紹介します。
We
offer the Word of God.
私たちは聖書を紹介します。
転
These
gifts do not require a building to be built first.
この贈り物は、建物を建築する必要がありません。
Of
course, having our own place where people can gather will be helpful, but the
most important thing is building relationships in Christ.
もちろん、人々が集まれる場所をもっていればとても便利です。しかし、一番大切なことは、キリストにあって人々と関係を建て上げることです。
The
Bible says that our Christian bodies are temples.
聖書は私たちの体が寺院だと言います。
Disciples
of Jesus are the temples we wish to build.
イエスの弟子となる人々が、私たちが建てたいと望んでいる寺院です。
For
making a strong Japanese disciple of Christ, it is better for Japanese to
minister to Japanese.
力強い日本人のキリストの弟子を作るためには、日本人が日本人に仕える方がよいと思います。
A
strong relationship between Japanese people is possible because there is a strong
cultural connection.
強い文化的な日本人のつながりは、強い関係を建て上げることを可能にします。
Because
of this connection, the senior Japanese Christian becomes a kuroko to the new
Japanese Christian.
このつながりから、先に救われた日本人のキリスト教徒は新しく救われる人々の黒子になります。
Certainly,
there is opportunity for foreigners to assist the Japanese church in relief
work.
もちろん、救済支援として外国人が日本の教会を助ける機会はあります。
But
if the goal of relief work is to share Christ and make disciples, perhaps that
goal can be accomplished best by the Japanese church.
しかし、もし、救済支援の目的が贈り物であるキリストを伝え、弟子を作ることであれば、目的を最も達成できるのは日本のキリスト教会だと思います。
結
From
now is the next season of work for Calvary Touhoku Relief.
今、カルバリー東北リリーフの働きは、次のシーズンに入っています。
In
the past, we gave physical items to help disaster survivors, and we built
relationships.
これまで、被災者を物理的に支援することで、関係を建て上げてきました。
This
winter, because there is an intense spiritual battle, it will be hard for the
survivors.
冬は霊的な戦いが始まっていますから、被災者の方々にとって生活するのに困難な季節です。
The
enemy wants them to turn to their culture and religion for spiritual comfort.
悪魔は霊的な平和にたいして、被災者がかれらの神道や文化などに転じるのを望んでいます。
It
is time for the Japanese church to be the kuroko to those who do not know Jesus
in Touhoku, and to build temples of new believers in Christ.
今は日本の教会が黒子となり、まだキリストを知らない東北の人々がキリストを信じ、寺院を建てるという季節です。
Please
pray with me for the spiritual protection of the lost.
まだキリストを知らない人々の霊が守られるように、私と一緒に祈ってください。
Please
pray with me that the Word of God would be exalted.
神のことばが広がるように、私と一緒に祈ってください。
Please
pray with me to respond to Christ.
キリストに応答するように、私と一緒に祈ってください。
